Filmed entirely on location in Napa Valley and L.A. with an all-American crew, NSWCFF Closing Night World Premiere is the Japanese “re-imagination” of the 2005 Academy Award-winning film of the same title, Sideways. The story is a heart-warming tale of two old friends - Michio (Fumio Kohinata) and Daisuke (Katsuhisa Namase) who venture out on a weeklong road trip, ending up in the Napa Valley. There they serendipitously meet up with an old heart throb Mayuko (Kyoka Suzuki), whom Michio tutored during his exchange student days 20 years past, and her free spirited friend Mina (Oscar Nominated Rinko Kikuchi, for Babel) raised in America. This film is a mouthwatering sensual revelation in which the infatuation with fine Napa Valley wines enliven the characters.Directed by Japanese American born Cellin Gluck Sideways is beautifully photographed by Garry Waller, Oscar nominated for his visual effects work on Poltergeist II. The New York Times calls this Sideways “one of the most intriguing” of cross cultural experiments.JOIN IN THE FUN WITH TASTING OF WINES FEATURED IN THE FILM ALONG WITH THE CAST AND CREW OF THIS NOT TO BE MISSED MOTION PICTURE.
