Keys to a Life Well Lived --
When wondering about the history of an old building, it's often said “if only the walls could talk.” Musical instruments are the same way, with lots of songs and stories played out over the years. And whether it's a Stradivarius or a beat up relic, as long as it still works, it's a vehicle for someone to create new music.
Victoria is a documentary short about an old piano, Victoria, and the people who play her. Located in the St. Anthony Dining Room in San Francisco, Victoria is visited and played daily by many of San Francisco's homeless and low-income population. Although out of tune, missing keys and having broken pedals, Victoria, as one guest says, 'is just like us, she may be all broken but she still plays, she still has a melody.' An upright grand that has a mostly unknown history and may have seen a better day, it could still be argued that Victoria has never sounded so good. You'll journey with them as they take you down a hilarious and emotional roller coaster.
