Winner of this year’s Wine Country Film Festival’s 2008 Margrit and Robert Mondavi Award for Peace and Cultural Understanding.
From the first view of Sangwa's verdant hamlet, which appears to be a haven, to the final scene of desolation, this film is a voyage to the heart of African history, memory and identity. Hutus and Tutsis have been locked in tribal warfare, families shattered, and abandoned children are taught to turn on each other. This powerful film is based on the lives of two teenagers who witnessed the genocide in their families. They know who the killers are and one decides to kill in revenge. Munyurangabo wants justice for his parents who were killed in the genocide, and Sangwa wants to visit the home he deserted years ago. After stealing a machete from a market in Kigali, they leave the city on a journey tied to their pasts. The boys are close and both Christian, but their tribes are lifetime enemies. Will the journey they take together turn them into enemies? Please note: Online ticket sales end 24 hours before each event. Tickets may still be available for purchase at the venue. |
