Hosted by Oscar winning actress, Shirley Jones, this celebration of song and dance traces the evolution of the Hollywood musical, from the Busby Berkeley era, to the patriotic, feel-good musicals of World War II, the near-death of the musical genre when the studio system collapsed, and the modern-day resurgence of films like 'Chicago', the first musical to win an Academy Award in more than 30 years and the 2007 box office smash, 'Dreamgirls.'

This journey begins with the dawn of sound on film to the development of the 'integrated' musical, in which songs became an important story-telling ingredient, to the genre's recent resurgence and multi-generational embrace. Featuring interviews with Liza Minnelli, Shirley MacLaine, Mickey Rooney, Rita Moreno, Debbie Reynolds, Leslie Caron, Joel Grey and directors Bill Condon ('Dreamgirls') and Rob Marshall ('Chicago'), plus rarely seen footage and interviews with legends such as Busby Berkley, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, Hollywood Singing and Dancing is a grand historical look at the magic of Hollywood musicals.
